Meet Mandarin Ear: Our New Name and Home
Why our new name, Mandarin Ear, better reflects the focused listening practice we are building—and what remains unchanged for learners.
Dictly.Live is now Mandarin Ear.
The name is new, but the purpose behind the product is not. We are still building a focused place for Mandarin learners who can follow the general meaning of real Chinese yet want to hear every sentence more accurately.
This change gives that purpose a clearer name—and gives the product a new home at mandarinear.com.
Why Mandarin Ear
Listening is often the part of Mandarin study that is hardest to see.
You can recognize vocabulary on a page, follow subtitles, and understand the topic of a podcast while still missing the exact words in a natural sentence. The gap only becomes obvious when the text disappears and you have to rely on your ears.
Mandarin Ear names the ability we want to help learners build: a more precise, confident ear for real Mandarin.
It also gives us room to describe the product accurately. Dictation remains an important training method, but it is not the final goal. The goal is to help you notice sounds, words, sentence boundaries, and expressions clearly enough to understand real Chinese with less guesswork.
What stays the same
This is a brand and domain change, not a reset.
- Your existing account, practice progress, XP, streaks, and training history remain yours.
- The same listening catalog and completed practice records continue to be available.
- The familiar donut-and-
听symbol, colors, and visual character remain part of the product. - The core practice loop still centers real Mandarin audio, focused attempts, immediate feedback, and visible progress.
You do not need to create another account or start your practice history again.

The first half matters because listening improvement needs more than background exposure. Learners need high-quality real audio, a clear task, focused repetition, and feedback that reveals where a sentence broke down.
The second half matters because effective practice only helps when people can begin it, finish it, and return. Boss challenges, XP, streaks, achievements, and visible progress are there to support the learning behavior—not replace it.
Mandarin Ear brings those two ideas together in a name that is easier to understand and closer to the skill we want to train.
